Is BJP responsible for killing of its own leader? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 6: Even as Governor Satya Paul Malik has ordered a probe to ascertain the security lapses in recent l killings of some political activists, including BJP leader Gul Mohammad Mir, there is a general feeling among people and more particularly the relatives of deceased that saffron party was solely responsible for pressurizing Government to withdraw security of protected persons in Kashmir Valley. Had the Government not withdrawn security cover of these political persons rendering them as soft targets, the terrorists would not have been able to kill them. And had the BJP not pressurised the government for withdrawal of security, Governor's administration would not have done the same. The deceased BJP leader had been provided two security guards, who were withdrawn in February along with several other protected persons following a Government order in this regard, which was issued allegedly under pressure from BJP. Pertinent to mention that the BJP had been consistently demanding withdrawal of security to Hurriyat and separatist leaders in Kashmir Valley. Even as this demand was being raised since years, the BJP Government at the centre got it endorsed through the administration of `own' Governor to exploit the issue in the Lok Sabha elections. The party, which was taking credit of getting the Kashmir based leaders stripped off their security cover, is now feeling embarrassed and guilty over the killing of its own leader. In an apparent attempt to hide its embarrassment, the party held a protest demonstration at Jammu today for the restoration of security cover, which was withdrawn by the Government on its pressure. Seeking restoration of security, sources said that a group of BJP leaders had earlier called on the Governor, who asked them to demonstrate and protest for the same. |
