Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: University fraternity today condoled the sad and untimely demise of Prof. Shailender Singh Jamwal, Head, Department of History and Dean Students Welfare, who left for heavenly abode early this morning after suffering a massive heart attack. Prof. Jamwal joined the University of Jammu in the year 1997 as Assistant Professor in Department of History. He held many prestigious positions in the University administration and eminent academic bodies of the Country. Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu while expressing his grief said that Prof. Jamwal was an academician of great repute whose rich contribution towards the growth of the University shall always be remembered. Prof. Dhar further said that in Prof. Jamwal's death, he has lost a friend and a great scholar. Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, University of Jammu read the formal condolence message. A condolence was attended by the University fraternity including academicians, officers, and officials, who also prayed for the peace of the departed soul. It is noteworthy to mention here that Prof. Jamwal was also a common wealth fellow at Oxford University England. He was an authority on history of Jammu and Kashmir especially J&K under the Dogra rule. Prof. Jamwal as Dean Students Welfare also initiated various welfare schemes for the students and specially the blood donation camps. He was one of the leading lights in Jammu University. |
