Executive meet chaired by Geelani forgets slain Mirwaiz
Cracks in separatist camp become visible

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 18: Once again the division among the separatists came to fore when Hurriyat Hawk Syed Ali Geelani chairing executive meet of the members of his conglomerate and failing to even mention a word on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's father whose anniversary is being observed next week on May 21.
As the separatists have been putting up a united face in Kashmir and could be seen issuing strike calls under a joint platform namely JRL, the wedge between them underneath continues to widen.
On Saturday, reports informed that an extraordinary meeting of Hurriyat Majlis Shoora (Consultative Body) held at Hyderpora and convened by Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, discussed at length the prevailing political situation of Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting condemned strongly the vile action of banning Jamaat-e-Islami, a purely religious organization and pro-freedom political party JKLF. The meeting decided to organize a seminar in relation to "Message of Ramadan" at Hyderpora on May 26, 2019.
However, there was not even a single word mentioned in the press statement about Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq- father of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq- who was assassinated at his Nigeen residence on May 21, 1990 reportedly by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
Though the meet chaired by Geelani talked in detailed about the human rights, demand to send a Red Cross team etc, why it preferred not to name Mirwaiz continues to remain a mystery. Whether such a development has hinted at the possible wedge between the two remains to be seen.
Earlier, there was a division found within the separatist ranks over the poll boycott of parliament elections. Except Geelani who issued a customary handout asking people to boycott, there was not any call issued by Mirwaiz or Yasin Malik. There were reports that the separatists in Kashmir are turning irrelevant with each passing day and these otherwise outlaws too have now decided to live a life off comfort instead of annoying the union and making the pandora box against them to open. Political experts believe that this was for the first time since the inception of separatism in Kashmir that there was no boycott call issued by any separatist leader during the recently held parliament polls in Jammu and Kashmir. Neither Mirwaiz Umar Farooq nor JKLF's Yasin Malik issued a single call for poll boycott. However, it was Syed Ali Geelani who issued a statement of few lines asking people to stay away from polls. Underneath the statement was a message that revealed how reluctant has the hawk turned in his rants. What used to be a series of statements in the past became a mere few lined statement- revealing absolutely nothing.
Earlier, in 2017, speculations were rife that both Hurriyat (M) chairman and Kashmir's chief religious cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik were going to stitch a common ground while leaving Geelani in isolation. They had in unison tried to come out to protest in Lal Chowk while none among Geelani's faction was there to mark the presence. Insiders believed at that time that the first major signs of cracks within the unity were emerging .
