Dates of J&K assembly polls depend on May 23 results | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 20: Although Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced to take decision on date of assembly polls in J&K after completion of the counting of Parliamentary elections, timing of elections in J&K is solely depend upon on May 23 results. Outcome of seven-phased Lok Sabha elections will decide when assembly polls will be held because BJP leadership has almost made its mind to postpone the elections for the time being. In case BJP failed to get majority on its own, party will face pressure from its ally especially Janta Dal (United) and other groups to conduct assembly polls in J&K. As per latest prediction BJP is likely to get majority on its own so chances of assembly elections in J&K in coming couple of months are looking bleak. Credible sources said that BJP leadership was unanimous in delaying assembly polls in J&K because party was planning to take some effective steps before the elections. "Party leadership is very much aware that forming government on its own in J&K is impossible so party has to enter into alliance with a Kashmir centric party to share power", sources said and revealed that party leadership was of the opinion that President's rule was the best time to extend its agenda in J&K. "For the coming couple of months, BJP leadership is going to take some steps especially to extend some constitutional provision in the State to address decade long demands of Jammu and Ladakh regions", sources said and list of issues to be addressed in the coming six months have already been identified by the BJP high command. |
