HC directs DC Jammu to consider NGO's plea for state land | Shelter for injured animals | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 27: The J&K High Court has directed the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to consider the representation made by an NGO, SAVE (Save Animals Value Environment) seeking allotment of 25 kanals of state land for the establishment of shelter for injured animals within Jammu city. After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed and others appearing for the petitioner NGO, Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta issued notices to Commissioner/ Secretary to J&K Housing and Urban Development Department, Commissioner/ Secretary to J&K Revenue Department, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Deputy Commissioner Jammu. The court granted four weeks for filing objections in the matter. Earlier, Advocate Ahmed submitted that the petitioner on 20-08-2018 made a detailed representation to the Commissioner/ Secret-ary Housing and Urban Development Department, Commissioner/ Secretary to J&K Revenue Department, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Deputy Commissioner Jammu wherein the petitioner requested for allotment of 25 Kanals of state land for the establishment of shelter for injured animals within the City and on the said representation, the Assistant Commissioner (Central) with Divisional Commiss-ioner Jammu issued communication No. 502/Misc/ Jammu/ 18/2331-32 dated 05-09-2018 whereby request was made to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to examine the issue and take appropriate action in the matter. Advocate Ahmed further highlighted that the Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Jammu wrote a communication No.DCJ/ SQ/ Misc./2018-19/3996- 4001 da ted 01-09-2018 to the Tehsildars, Bhalwal/ Jammu North/ Nagrota/ Bahu/ Jammu directing them to identify a suitable piece of state land measuring 25 Kanals and submit the revenue papers in triplicate to his office in order to proceed further in the matter, but no action has been taken in the matter and no report has ever been submitted by the Tehsildars concerned. Again on 28-01-2019 the petitioner sent a reminder to the Deputy Commiss-ioner Jammu wherein it was explicitly submitted that almost five months have elapsed but the land has not been identified and none of the Tehsildars have reverted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner Jammu and it was also mentioned that in Jammu district thousands of kanals of state land is available which is under the illegal occupation of the encroachers/land mafia. |
