Govt settles long pending demand of migrants by restoring RBA status
5/28/2019 11:57:15 AM
JAMMU, May 27: With restoration of backward status to displaced Pandits from Valley a long pending demand of these people has been met by the Governor's administration.
The migrants from backward areas of Valley were deprived of backward status by NC , Congress coalition led by Omar Abdullah on the plea that these people no longer reside in the backward areas ignoring that they were forced to flee from Valley on security reasons as they were facing threat from Pak sponsored terrorism who killed hundreds of members of the community and razed their houses and business establishments and religious shrines to ground.
Despite the plea of displaced Pandits organisations demanding restoration of backward status to migrants from backward areas of Valley the demand was turned down by the then Government.
The then Omar Government which remained adamant on it's decision forgot that the economic status of Kashmiri Pandits lowered after their mass Exodus from Valley and they have to live in dingy tents and camps in Jammu and other parts of country to keep their body and soul together.
The people doing business in Valley or the agriculturists and orchardists lost their entire business and had to remain totally dependent on meagre cash doles granted by Government.
The condition of the displaced families turned miserable due to their mass migration and they we're dependent on support.
However the decision of previous NC, Congress Government added salt to their injuries by denying RBA status to the displaced Pandits from backward areas of Valley.
But the constant struggle of displaced people bore fruit and Governor's administration conceded the demand.
The order in this regard was issued by Principal Secretary to State Government Rohit Kansal. The order says that the people of RBA areas who were forced to migrate from one division of the State to another division or another State are entitled to RBA status.
The decision has been welcomed by displaced people from Valley who termed it a victory of their struggle and positive role played by Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Secretary Revenue and Relief as well as Principal Secretary to Government, advisor in charge Relief as well as Governor Satya Pal Malik.
