Use of polythene continues in Udhampur despite HC directions | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, May 27: Almost all states in India have imposed a blanket ban on plastic bags, and yet many shoppers remain wedded to the flimsy carry bags. In mid-January, 2018 Jammu and Kashmir became the latest state to prohibit all polythene bags, in accordance with high court directions. Despite this, change is barely visible on the ground. In Udhampur district , shopkeepers and vegetable sellers still use polythene bags. Ban on use of Polythene bags for its ill effects on environment and human health also but municipal department Udhampur are in deep slumber and not take any action to control the Use of polythene bags . Everywhere in Udhampur from shopkeepers to vendors commonly use polythene bags. Through biomonitoring, chemicals in plastics, such as BPA and phthalates, have been identified in the human population. he also added that Plastic bags tend to disrupt the environment in a serious way. They get into soil and slowly release toxic chemicals. Another local from Udhampur expressed serious concern over use of Polythene bags . He suggested penal action agsinst the users. |
