Dr Farooq Abdullah is day dreaming
R.B. Suri5/28/2019 10:43:02 PM
Dr. Farooq Abdullah who remained as the Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir thrice and elected to the Lok Sabha as MP from the Srinagar constituency on May 23 is day dreaming for forming the next government in the state by the National Conference without any alliance with any other political party. Based upon the figures of the votes polled in favour of the BJP in Jammu Division in the recently held Lok Sabha elections as reported by an english daily from Jammu, BJP has captured the 28 Assembly segments and lost in only three Assembly segments and that too with the narrow margins. This means that it would be difficult for the National Conference to win in the Jammu Division and its victory would depend on the 46 Assembly segments of the Kashmir Division only where the credibility of the PDP is in danger as it drew a big ZERO in the Lok Sabha elections in the Kashmir valley. Not only this the PDP Chief and the former Chief Minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti has lost the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat this time which she had represented prior to becoming the Chief Minister in an alliance with the BJP in March, 2016. If Dr. Farooq Abdullah is serious and really interested in the next government in the state he will have to work very hard thereby totally side lining his son Omar Abdullah who too had played an successful inning as the Chief minister in an alliance with the Indian National Congress (INC). As MP Dr.Farooq Abdullah won't be having the sufficient time in concentrating in the state politics because of his pre engagements. Under the compulsions he will have to shift over into the state politics leaving his parliament seat. In comparison to Omar Abdullah, Dr.Farooq Abdullah being the straight forward and vocal politician of the country enjoys a very good reputation in the people of Jammu region and has the great respect in the masses of the state. And through out of his political career, he remained as the staunch supporter for the Constructive Dialogue between India and Pakistan for the settlement of the Kashmir problem. Not only this, Dr.Farooq Abdullah is popular in the opponents of the PM Modi and a great diplomat also. He is very much fond of attending the marriages besides other festive parties of the people belonging to other religions. Usually he mixes with the people joyfully and even play the dances in the functions due to which he commands the respect and honour from the people at large. Dr.Farooq Abdullah is very popular on the Indian polity. He is a national leader besides being a Kashmir centric leader also. Whereas, unlike his father, Omar Abdullah, on the contrary, does't have any mass base in the state and usually remain confined to the indoor politics. He lacks the qualities of a mass based leader. He is in the habit of playing the politics through TWEETS only. There are a few only in Jammu region with whom he maintains some ties and the friendship and at the same time he is not a diplomat. Throughout of his political career he remained in power in the state or the Center and as a opposition leader he has just played the inning since 2015 and has not led any mass agitation against the Rulers in the state. For a mass base political leader, his arrest by the ruling party acts as a 'decadron' and in the past he has never be detained so far. Not only this, besides these negativities, Omar's case of divorce from his wife which is subjudice in a court of law at New Delhi as also the pendency of the case filed by his wife and two sons for their maintenance resulting which he is a little bit mentally upset. But one thing is amply clear that he is an honest politician of the state and not biased to any one in the state. This goes to his credit indeed. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is presently working these days in preparing the ins and outs strategies for conducting of the next Assembly elections in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The conducting of the elections in J&K became necessary as the J&K Legislative Assembly was dissolved by the present Governor J&K Satya Pal Malik on November 21. Earlier, the J&K Legislative Assembly was kept under suspended animation by the then Governor of the state NN Vohra, who imposed the Governor's Rule in Jammu and Kashmir on June 20 last year. Presently the state of Jammu and Kashmir is under the President Rule. Since the period of eleven months are already over, anytime, an election notification is expected now from the ECI. Hopefully, the elections to the J&K Legislative Assembly would be held in the last week of October or the mid of November this year. Pertinent to mention here that the Governor of the state Satya Pal Malik is on record an in fact he has recommended to the ECI to conduct the Assembly elections in the state in November this year. Almost all the political parties of the state and the centre are hectically busy in devising their respective strategies for the ensuing Assembly elections in the state. Pertinent to mention here that there are two major regional political parties - National Conference ( NC) and People's Democratic Party( PDP). Both of these political parties have ruled this state number of times. Besides this, other political parties of the country e.g. Indian National Congress (INC) and BJP are also in the fray apart from People's Conference and CPI (M), National Panthers Party and the J&K People's Movement launched by Shah Faisal after leaving his job as a Bureaucrat. A fire brand President BJP Ravinder Raina is on record as having said many a times in the past that this time his party BJP would form the government in the state by its own and the Chief Minister will be from Jammu. Immediately reacting to his saying so, the former Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah once dared to ask him to come out with the exact name of the man from Jammu as the Chief Minister to which Raina had not countered against the Omar's utterances on the issue involved so far. The chances of National Conference coming into power once again under the command of Omar Abdullah in the state seem as bleak as such Dr.Farooq Abdullah will have to think afresh about making of the revised strategy for grasping the power in the state once again. He will have to shift his attention towards the political affairs of the state instead of playing the role as national leader on the Indian polity at New Delhi. If he does so, then only the chances of National Conference would be brightened. Still time is there for him to decide the issue involved on priority as his party has the mass base in the valley particularly and in the certain pockets of the Jammu region also such as Bishnah, R.S. Pura, Marh, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Surankote, Nowshera, Akhnoor, Banihal etc.
PDP which remained in power in the state in an alliance with the saffron party BJP under Agenda of Alliance since 2015, has lost its credibility in the valley resulting which there exists a gap for encashing the same by the National Conference. Bagging of all the three MP seats from the valley - Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla by the National Conference is the clear cut evidence that it enjoyed the confidence of the people of the valley which would be beneficial for it to gain the strength and the support of the valley people at large in the coming Assembly elections. This time minus PDP, the People's Conference of Sajad Ghani Lone and the recently launched J&K People's Movement party floated by the top ex IAS Bureaucrat Shah Faesal would be main opponents of the National Conference in the coming Assembly elections in the state. It is very much likely that these two would pose a threat to the National Conference in the days to come. Under the prevailing circumstances, Dr. Farooq Abdullah will have to act smartly while thinking afresh totally for coming into the power once again in the state otherwise under Omar's command, the chances for the National Conference for coming into power are very bleak. With the coming of Narender Modi once again in the Center with the thumping majority, there are chances that India may start the Dialogue process with Pakistan soon as the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has also desired so for improving the relations with India as early as possible. In this eventuality it is the dire need of the hour that the state of Jammu and Kashmir should have Dr. Farooq Abdullah as the Chief Minister of the state and he may be instrumental for the Central Government led by PM Modi for defusing the tangle of Kashmir problem. Therefore in the interests of the country the presence of Dr.Farooq Abdullah as the Chief Minister of the state is must by all means. If Dr.Farooq Abdullah doesn't come on these lines, his day dreaming would go otherwise. Let's wait and see.
