Early Times Report

Jammu, May 30: On the third day of the ongoing 12th Natrang Theatre Festival in connection with the celebrations of Natrang's 35 years, Natrang presented a play 'Andhe Kaane'.
The play was written in Punjabi by eminent Punjabi playwright Atamjeet and translated in Hindi by Anoop Sethi and directed by Neeraj Kant at Natrang Studio Theatre Jammu.
Natrang is organising a Theatre Festival of four plays every month since last thirteen months in commemoration with the celebrations of 35 glorious years of Natrang. In his welcome address, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur informed that Natrang has already created a record in the country by showcasing 44 major different plays by the same group in a period of twelve months.
He complimented all actors, directors and technicians of Natrang associated with the holding of such historic Natrang theatre festivals. Natrang has not only provided the audience a chance to witness different plays of highly social & artistic relevance but also has added to their creative and intellectual repository by staging the literary works of the most celebrated writers of the world.
The play, in a very symbolic manner reveals the real condition of all of us. It is a hard hitting satire which gives immense reasons to us to believe that we are not left with sensitivity any more. Being blind suggests that we are not able to see and recognize the reality around us. Everyone is shown blind in this play, they are busy in their daily chores unconcerned and unaware of their disability as this has become a part of their being since they were born, even before that.
Disagreement occurs when a person comes and unfolds the reality before them, which they are not ready to buy, then he cites many examples starting from the historic times to colonial India where everyone did the atrocities and we were blind, deaf and dumb. This process of meekness entered in our genes and we have developed the instinct of being extra resistant. Suddenly at the end of the play, the satire turns to be a revolutionary discourse against exploitation.
Those who impressed the audience by the flair of their acting include Manoj Lalotra, Sushant Singh Charak, Adil Khan, Umang Sharma, Chahat Katyal, Chirag Anand and Brijesh Avtaar Sharma. Lights were designed and executed by Shivam Singh and the music was scored by Manoj Laotra. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen and the presentations were done by Kananpreet Kaur. On the concluding Day of Natrang Theatre Festival, Hindi play 'Rehearsal' will be featured on 31st of May, 2019 at 5:30 pm
