Seedless cucumber launched in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 4: Department of Agriculture, Jammu launched the commercial production of seedless cucumber here today. The Programme was inaugurated by Director of Agriculture, Jammu, P. S. Rathore, in presence of Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension) Anil Arora and progressive farmers of Jammu region. Director Agriculture speaking on the occasion said that efforts are being made to popularize high tech interventions by the Department for doubling farmer's income and attracting the educated unemployed youth towards agriculture entrepreneurship. He stressed upon the farmers to go for the production of exotic and high value vegetables under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production for high returns. He advised them to explore the full marketing potential/E-marketing of the specialized vegetable produce like Broccoli, Lettuce, Red Cabbage and Seedless Cucumbers which are grown under the controlled conditions as the Insect pest/ disease free and safe veggies are in high demand in the big cities. Pertinent to mention that two Hi Tech Net Sheds were set up last year under Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) on an area of 6000 Sq mts with the Technical Guidance of the Department of Agriculture at Panjore and Dab Karamdin of Block Marh. Another Net Shed on an area of 4000 sq mts area at village Panhotre Chak (Phallian-Mandal) is working successfully. S. Tajinder Singh Wazir, Member Kisan Advisory Board/Progressive farmer while speaking on the occasion said that the Shade Net technology is a specialized farming technique to produce safe and high quality crops and demanded assured marketing support for high value crops like seedless cucumber. |
