Will Azad return as JK Congress chief?
Crucial meeting on June 9, top leadership summoned
6/4/2019 11:37:37 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 4: This year is going to be a tightrope walk for veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad as on June 9, the state Congress leadership will reportedly decide whether to allow him to enter into the state politics.
As per the sources, a crucial meeting of the state Congress is scheduled to be held on June 9 and it will be chaired by Congress veteran Ambika Soni.
There are also reports that the Congress high command is willing to send party leader Ghulam Nahi Azad to Jammu and Kashmir to head the party affairs here. However, as per the reports, many senior voices within the Congress party aren't willing to accept Azad as their leader as they accuse him of playing to the galleries.
Meanwhile, as per the reports, the crucial meeting that will decide whether Azad will enter into the state politics or not will be decided on June 9. "There are leaders who aren't happy with Azad and they don't want him to lead the party here. If such a trend continues, some crises are bound to take place within the party fold," says a leader privy to this development.
Meanwhile, if sources are to be believed, infighting within the party will only get worsen with each passing day and the rebellion will only gain momentum in near future. "The high command has to pay heed to what is happening on ground to Congress in JK. If such a situation continues to remain, the day is not far when we will be routed from the state forever. You cannot allow this to happen. You have to make sure that things are in order," says a Congress leader.
He added that there are apprehensions of a rebellion if those at the helm in the party in the state aren't taken to task. "Workers are unhappy and so are the functionaries and other activists. They want some one in the higher ranks to take responsibility of the recent rout. This is not done that the entire blame is being shifted to the shoulders of poor workers and supporters," says another Congress leader.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the Congress high command may summon the Congress chief over the reports of rebellion in the state and take measures which are needed to be taken for pacifying the disgruntled voices.
Pertinent to mention that Congress displayed very poor performance in the state during the recently held parliament polls. As Jammu, Udhampur and Ladakh were taken by BJP, NC swept all the three seats of Kashmir Valley not even allowing Congress to win its expected south Kashmir LS seat.
"There have been already been some signs of rebellion within the party. We will have to decide which way the party should go as the polls for the state assembly are scheduled this year," says another Congress leader and added that the meeting on June 9 will open up many doors for the party to decided in a saner way.
