Namgyal demands separation of Ladakh from Kashmir
6/4/2019 11:53:10 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 4: The newly-elected BJP MP from the Trans-Himalayan Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal has explained away his priorities and expressed himself in favour of a regime that separates Ladakh from Kashmir and makes Ladakh a master in its own house. Ladakh returns only one member to the Lok Sabha, country's highest law-making body.
Explaining his priorities, Namgyal has said that Ladakhis wanted to be a separate entity from Jammu & Kashmir. "No other party supported the UT demand of Ladakhis, only the BJP is onboard from regional to national level. Hence, Ladakh's political aspiration will be a priority. Ladakh is known as part of Kashmir but that is not factually true. We have a different culture, ethnicity and even language. Valley-centric policies cannot be geographically implemented in Ladakh. In every respect, Ladakh must be separated from Kashmir," said Namgyal was quoted as saying.
Namgyal further said: "Tourism suffered in Ladakh due to tensions in Kashmir. The separate division now and relaxation of the inner-line permit by Modi ji will help boost Ladakh tourism. It has given us a new identity".
Demanding separation of Ladakh from Kashmir, Namgyal said: "This demand is not new. Since 1948, Ladakhis have been wanting to be a separate entity from Jammu and Kashmir. Ladakh is neglected and remained backward. People want change".
Namgyal demanding separation of Ladakh from Kashmir is a major development in the strategic region. The most significant aspect of his whole formulation was that there was nothing whatsoever that is common between Ladakh and Kashmir and it is a fact. The view in Jammu is no different. The voting pattern in Jammu since 2002 clearly suggests that the people of Jammu province have been voting overwhelmingly against the Kashmir-based parties, including the Kashmir-controlled Congress.
