DLSA Jammu organises sensitization programme on safety, security of senior citizens

JAMMU, June 14: In compliance to direction of Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority, Gita Mittal, District Legal Services Authority today organised sensitization programme on safety and security of senior citizens for the police personnel here today.
The event was a part of the "Ageing with Dignity" Campaign which was held by DLSA in collaboration with district administration and Police department under the chairmanship of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu, Vinod Chatterji Koul and supervision of Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu.
Judicial Officers, Police Officers, Medical Offices, District Administration Officers, Prosecuting Officers, Senior Advocates of Bar Association, Jammu, faculty members of various schools, Para Legal Volunteers, prominent Senior Citizens besides others attended the programme.
J&K State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, had specially invited Dr. Aabha Chaudhary, Chairperson, Anugraha, New Delhi, an internationally renowned expert PhD holder in gerontology and gender issues also working as consultant with United Nations, as chief guest and resource person to sensitize police personnel on safety and security of Senior citizens.
The Sensitization programme which was an endeavor to address various challenges faced by the Senior Citizen Prisoners besides sensitizing the police personnel about special and specific psycho social needs of Senior Citizens and methodology of dealing with them, awareness and knowledge of the key provisions of the Senior Citizen Act and role of Police personnel in treatment and prevention of elder abuse and neglect.
M.M Khajuria, Former Director General of Police, Romesh Kumar; Dy. Commissioner Jammu, Monika Kohli, Advocate, J&K High Court, Vinod Chatterji Koul, Chairman DLSA, Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary DLSA and Advocate Jyoti Bala, Retainer Lawyer, District Legal Services Authority, Jammu enlightened the police personnel with their expertise on issues, problems of senior citizens, Elder Abuse and Senior Citizens Act, Effective communication skills with senior citizens etc.
