Power hungry' local BJP leaders creating hurdles in delimitation move | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 15: Statement of Governor Satya Pal Malik has raised question about intention of state unit of BJP to set up delimitation commission to end discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh regions. On the one hand, BJP leaders from J&K are demanding setting of delimitation to end political discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh regions, while on the other hand they are trying to convince the central leadership to hold assembly elections as early as possible. By demanding early assembly elections in J&K, these BJP leaders are trying to sabotage the move of setting up delimitation commission to re-draw assembly constituencies because panel will take minimum six months to complete the process but they were desperate to conduct polls earlier. Credible sources said that BJP leaders in J&K are playing dubious role on the issue of delimitation because internally they are opposing to this idea but in public they are supporting it. Sources said that BJP leadership has not taken a clear stand on this issue so administration is not aware of the real situation. Governor Malik on Wednesday had stated that Delimitation (of constituencies) was a constitutional matter, even the Home Ministry has not confirmed it. Right now these are only rumours. Credible sources said that Union Government has decided to end political discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh before announcing schedule for the assembly elections but local power hungry BJP leaders finding it difficult to wait for some more time. |
