Teacher thrashes, injures 15 students in Doda | Wah Ustaad! | | Abid Hussain Wani Early Times Report doda, June 19: At least 15 students received injuries after they were brutally beaten up by their teacher on Tuesday at Gujjar-Bakerwal Hostel for boys in Doda. Speaking to Early Times, the students said they were late to their classes by only 10 minutes, which angered their teacher Mohammad Yaseen. To give vent to his anger, Yaseen thrashed more than 15 students with a stick. Coordinator of Child Line Department, Meenaskhi Raina, said after a video about the thrashing of the students went viral on social media, "we reached to the spot to investigate the matter with the authorities of the hostel." During the enquiry, Raina said, the teacher confessed to have beaten up the students. "Further enquiry about this matter is going on. Strict action will be sought against the teacher for his inhuman act," Raina said. She said if the hostel authorities failed to submit their report within two days, "then we will lodge FIR against the teacher under law." She said: "Teachers should adopt persuasive measures instead of corporal punishment to deal with the children showing challenging behaviour. The government should impart training skills to teachers so that before joining the schools they can adopt positive discipline tactics in dealing with the children." Raina added: "Corporal punishment is increasing day by day. Last year, many cases have been reported in this regard as the Union Ministry of women and Child Development has issued a new set of guidelines that bans physical punishment of students. Teacher who are found guilty could be denied promotion and even increments. A child rights cell should be set up in all schools where children can lodge a complaint." |
