Kishtwar markets abuzz with activity as day curfew lifted

Kishtwar, Aug 11: Much to the respite of Kishtwar people where curfew was imposed on Monday following the scrapping of Article 370 and 35 A of the constitution by the union government, the District Administration Kishtwar today lifted the day curfew ahead of Eid-ul-Azha tomorrow. As per the details available with Early Times, hundreds of people including children rushed to the market for Eid purchase beside people were also seen busy in buying animals for sacrifices.
The people were seen lined outside the bank ATMs as the Jammu and Kashmir bank who traditionally remains open ahead of Eid was closed today.
The curfew was lifted by the administration from 9 AM and was re-imposed at 8 PM in the evening even though the curfew was lifted at 9 AM in the morning, but security forces allowed the movement of the people particularly the vegetable vendors and meat shop owners. The administration cleared the trucks loaded with vegetables and fruits and other essential commodities and felicitated their movement into the town.
The administration also ensured that the government run ration depots remain open and the people will get the ration hassle free for the month of August and ahead of Eid. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana also visited the various areas of the Kishtwar town and took stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Kishtwar police today withdraw the security cover of former R&B Minister and Ex-MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori after he addressed the Friday congressional prayers at Jamia Masjid Kishtwar condemning the scrapping of Article 370 and 35 A of the constitution and made an appeal to the youths to remain peaceful by not taking law into their own hands and assured them that they will fight the union government move in the Supreme Court.
Saroori while talking to Early Times confirmed the withdrawal of his security cover added that the government cannot muzzle the free speech of the people and also condemn the arrest of Pro Indian leadership who holds Indian sovereignty in state of Jammu and Kashmir.
District Secretary National Conference Shabir Ahmed Kamal who along with others were detained by the police following the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A was shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar after an upset stomach and intestinal infection.
Among the mainstream politicians PDP's Umar Malik, Wasil Doolwal, NC's Farooq Ahmed Dev, social activist Shakir Saddiqui, separatist leader Molvi Abdul Qayoom Mattoo, Syed Shabir Ahmed, Arshad Mattoo have been detained by the police since the union government move while NC District President Kishtwar Tanveer Ahmed Kichloo is also under house arrest.
When Early Times approach for seeking comment of incarcerated NC District President, the police personnel guarding his house told the Early Times that the higher officials has issued directions not to allow NC leader to meet anyone.
In another development, for the first time in the history of Kishtwar District the authorities did not allow the Eid Namaz at Kishtwar Eidgah following security reasons.
As per the announcement made from various mosques, the Eid Namaz will be held at around two dozen local mosques at different times spreading over four hours ranging from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. At Central Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, the Eid Namaz will be held at 10:30 am.
