Alert in Kashmir ahead of Independence Day, landlines to be opened after review | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 11: A security alert has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday for three days ahead of Independence Day celebrations in the Valley. Srinagar District Commissioner Shahid Chaudhury told India Today TV that the situation is currently under control, but the restrictions are necessary to avoid any violence. He, however, said that the restrictions were removed today on the eve of Eid. "Any restriction is not by choice, there is no causality as of now, we are successful in this, and there has been no violence," he said. Hoping for a peaceful Eid in the Valley, he said the authorities are trying their best to interact with locals and religious leaders to keep the situation under control. Speaking on detentions in the Valley, he said that local police has restricted some people but they are not related to the Centre's decision to scrap Article 370. He went on to say that there have been no major incidents of stone-pelting in Kashmir Valley and measures are being taken action to deal with any untoward situation. Commenting on the landline connections, he said the administration will take a call on opening the networks in one or two days after conducting a security review. On Sunday, the J&K administration also announced setting up of 300 special booths to help locals communicate with their family members in the wake of the restrictions. |
