NSA Ajit Doval for speedy resumption of telecom services in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 17: Concerned towards the inconvenience being faced by the people due to communication snap down in Kashmir, the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval wants speedy resumption of telecom services. Sources said the NSA, who is trying all people friendly measures to provide relief to people in Kashmir and personally visited several areas, has told the security agencies and the civil administration to evolve a strategy for "speedy resumption" of the telecom services including landline, mobile phone and the internet for the benefit of the people. It was reliably learnt that the services would be restored in the phased manners. "To start with the landline services are being restored in a phase manner to be followed by mobile services of one particular provider to the followed to the private service providers. Subsequently low speed internet will be restored," said an officer on the condition of anonymity. He said services including high speed internet would be restored to normal only when all such phased plans don't lead to untoward incidents taking place. "And if the situation takes any ugly turn there will be a rollback of the services (communication clampdown will be in place again)," the official said. It was reliably learnt that the landlines have been restored for a few exchanges in Kashmir from August 17 and the process will likely to be completed in four days. Sources said the government was concentrating more on the resumption of landlines such that the government offices in Kashmir resume normal work. Sources said the government officials have also conveyed all the restoration of telecommunication services was needed to provide better services to the people. It is pertinent to mention that the telecom clampdown in Kashmir started on August 5, when New Delhi decided to scrap the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The services are affected since with the government keeping its finger crossed over the resumption of the same. |
