Jammu, Aug 24: Chanting "Hare Rama, Hare Krishna", thousands of devotees thronged Shri Raghunath Ji Temple, Doodhadhari Temple, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Shri Krishna Temple at Rani Park, Jammu to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna. The festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in Jammu and adjoining districts. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna was born on this day to Devaki and Vasudeva. Chanting "Hare Rama, Hare Krishna", thousands of devotees thronged Shri Raghunath Ji Temple, Doodhadhari Temple, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Shri Krishna Temple at Rani Park, Jammu to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna. All other temples of Lord Krishna in the city and its peripheries were decorated with flowers, bounties and colourful lights. Devotees were also singing prayers in the praise of Lord Krishna. Special Langars (Community Kitchens) were also organised by the society members where followers of Krishna were offered Prasad. A colourful "Shobha Yatra" was also taken out by Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Gandhi Nagar Jammu wherein hundreds of people participated. With children attired as Krishna, Radha, Sudhama, Vasudeva, Yashoda, special colourful Jhankis and processions were taken out by different temple committees in Janipura, Link Road, Jain Bazar, Lakhdatta Bazar, Jewel and other areas of the city last evening with adequate deployment of police and paramilitary personnel. Throughout the day, the people remained busy in flying kites from their rooftops. In Jammu, people of all ages-children, young and old fly kites on Rakshabandhan and Janmashtami festival. |
