Home ministry denies information sought on Article 370, Kashmir | | | Agencies New Delhi, Aug 27: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has refused to provide information related to the Narendra Modi government's decision to abrogate special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. Lucknow based activist Nutan Thakur had sought copy of the official file of MHA related to scrapping of special status of Jammu and Kashmir earlier provided under Article 370 of the Constitution. The Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of MHA refused to provide information, saying that the information sought attracts the provisions of section 8(1) of the RTI Act, under which there is no obligation to provide information to citizen. Nutan Thakur has filed First Appeal against this order arguing that the MHA has not clearly specified which sub-section of section 8(1) is applicable in this case. Previously, the Prime Minister's Office had refused to provide information regarding abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of the state "after due consideration." The government had on August 5 abrogated special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The decision has led to a huge political controversy with the Opposition parties accusing the Modi government of taking advantage of President's Rule in Jammu and Kashmir. |
