Rajouri admin intensifies anti-plastic campaign | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Aug 27: As a part of the initiative to make Rajouri free of single use plastics, a major anti-polythene drive was conducted today across the district. The drive was conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioners and Sub divisional Magistrates on the direction of District Development Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad. The district administration in a recent meeting had finalised the strategy for making the district free of single use plastic and necessary directions were issued to the concerned officers. It was decided that no official meeting in the district shall make use of plastic bottles, plastic glasses, cups and all other single use plastic substances. Acting on the decisions, a major drive was conducted and 148.520 kg polythene above the standard of 50 microns was seized in Nowshera, Sunderbani, Rajouri, Thanamandi, Kalakote/Teryath and Kotranka. The officers during the drive appealed the public as well as to the shopkeepers to refrain from using polythene in day to day life and go for eco-friendly alternative. Further in order to achieve the goal of making the district free of single use plastic, the DDC has constituted 22 committees at District and Tehsil level with the job of keeping a check on the use of single use plastic. These committees shall also promote the use of eco friendly alternatives of polythene such as jute bags in the district and create mass awareness in this regard. Pertinent to mention that a Jute bag manufacturing unit has been already set up in the district. District administration Rajouri is also planning to distribute free jute and cloth bags to encourage the people to make use of alternatives to poly bags. |
