Rubaiya Sayeed arrives, seeks meeting sister Mehbooba Mufti | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 28: A few days after Mehbooba Mufit's daughter Iltija Javed flew out of Kashmir to get in touch with her aunt Rubaiya Sayeed, the later has arrived in Kashmir in an effort to meet her sister and former chief minister who is under detention. Sources said Rubaiya Sayeed has written a formal application to the State Administration to grant her permission to meet her sister Mehbooba who is detained at VIP Guest House at Chashma Shahi here. Sources said Rubaiya chipped in her effort after Iltija was not granted permission to meet her mother. In a letter to State Administration, Iltija has told them that a senior police official has allegedly told her not to visit Kashmir again or that she would be put under house arrest. Sources said now Rubaiya is using her efforts to rope in support to get an appointment with her sister, who is also the president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Since her abduction in 1990, it is for the first time that Rubaiya has formally shot a letter to the administration. Three decades ago, at the onset of militancy in Kashmir, she was abducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) militants from a minibus when she was returning from hospital where she worked as a doctor. Daughter of the then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Syeed, Rubaiya was released in return of release of six top militants including Hameed Sheikh, one of the commanders of the JKLF. After her release from the clut6ches of the militants, Rubaiya had left Kashmir. She subsequently married a man in Chennai and has been settled in South India since. It is pertinent to mention that Mehbooba like most other senior leaders have been detained since August 5, 2019 when Union Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi abrogated article 370 that granted special status to the then state of Jammu and Kashmir. |
