Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: General Category People's Forum Jammu held a meeting to highlight the grievances of the general category people who are allegedly being denied equal opportunities.
Addressing the meeting, the Forum president Yash Paul Sanson demanded that Government should ensure equality and equal opportunities to all and all kinds of reservations, special privileges and concessions be abolished. He added that majority community be also given equal rights and benefits guaranteed to minorities. It is unfortunate that there are different laws for the majority and minority, he added and also demanded implementation of Articles; 14, 15 and 16 of Indian Constitution without any ifs and buts as equality, non-discrimination and equal opportunities are fundamental rights of all citizens.
V K Sharma, Vice-President of the Forum, endorsed the views of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on reservation and opined that reservations should be provided to the "Poor Caste" only on economic basis. "The national level discussions over the issue of existing provisions of reservations be organized. A Reservation Review Committee be framed to review the existing provisions of reservation. The benefits of reservations be reached to the poor caste only," he stressed.
Som Nath Sharma, General Secretary of the Forum, condemned vested interests voicing against the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A terming it as identity crisis. He said that there is no identity crisis in other States of India where there was on Article 370 or 35-A. He demanded some legal reservations in Jammu Kashmir (UT) on the purchase and sale of land by outsiders. He demanded a safeguard like a "Domicile Certificate" on the pattern of Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand as to protect the interest of local people of Jammu Kashmir in respect of land and State jobs.
Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Forum, Dr Bansi Lal, Deepak Khajuria, Jagdish Dogra, Kuldeep Verma, Bhushan Pargal and Kewal Sharma also expressed their views on the occasion.
