Joint team constituted in league with Punjab Police | JKP to raid Punjab 'hideouts' | | Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 13: With the arrest of three militants and recovery of arms and ammunition from a truck from Kathua area of Jammu province, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are set to raid some hideouts in Punjab, where from Kashmiri militancy is feared getting support from. Official sources said that the recovery of six assault rifles from a truck that being used by the militants to travel from Punjab to Jammu and Kashmir has set the alarms bell ringing that if the neighboring state was again being used for terror activities. Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police had credible inputs that the arms recovered from Kashmiri militants were actually brought in from Punjab from where the truck has started its journey. Sources said the police apprehend that some slippers cells of Kashmiri militants could be active in Punjab and that the interrogation of trio has hinted at the same. "The initial inquiry suggest about the Punjab connection but the case needs to be dug up further for which raids will be carried out in neighboring states," said a senior official on the condition anonymity. He said the Punjab Police (PP) has already been informed about the possible joint operation to be carried out there. Official sources said that the fresh consignments of arms and ammunition were being imported into the state of Jammu and Kashmir to feed the militancy. "It has been a known fact that they (Kashmiri Militants) have been running short of weapons…imports of such weapons from outsides instead some external forces are involved and thus this case is highly sensitive," said the senior official. The weapons have been recovered at a time when the intelligent agencies have inputs that the Pakistan is desperate to carry out terror strikes in Kashmir in a bid to foil the abrogation of article 370. It is pertinent to mention that on September 12 on specific inputs the JKP seized the truck that was being used by the Kashmiri militants to carry arms and ammunitions. The arrested as per the police have admitted their links with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Despite repeated attempts the concerned in Kathua police couldn't be contacted for comments. |
