Tourist destinations should be clean, environment friendly: Khanna | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 20: Bharatiya Janata Party in association with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation held cleanliness drive under Swachta Programme, as series of events are being organised with the motive of social service and public awareness while celebrating the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and named 'Seva Saptah'. During his recent visit to Kashmir, Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP National Vice-President and J&K Prabhari, along with MP, Rajya Sabha, Shamsher Singh Manhas and State General Secretary Dr Narinder Singh, undertook this cleanliness drive in GPO Lane, Srinagar. It also had the participation of Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Avinash Rai Khanna, while speaking on the significance of the drive, said that the concept of cleanliness sponsored by Prime Minster Narendra Modi throughout the country during his previous term five years ago, has been adopted by the people as they too want clean India. This is a major and leading cleanliness drive initiated in India after Independence. There has been an over whelming response to the idea globally and we need to carry the concept by translating it into action at grass root level. There is need to educate the young people in schools, colleges, professional, educational institutions and associate them with the campaign to inculcate the sense of Swachta among them. Avinash Rai Khanna said that cleanliness in places where tourists in large numbers visit every year should be clean and environment friendly so that the visitors spend more time there. Kashmir is world's famous tourist destination and attracts tourist from across the world. The more we give clean, environment friendly atmosphere to them, more beneficial it would be for the state as tourism is one of the major economy booster, Khanna asserted. |
