1st Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Open Hockey Tournament for Women commences

Jammu, Sept 24: 1st Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Open Hockey Tournament for women inaugurated by S. DharamPal Singh veteran National Hockey Player from Punjab and S. Rajinder Singh Kuku general Secretary Hockey India today, being organized at KK Hakku Hockey Stadium, Jammu under the patronage of Hockey J&K.
This is the first hockey tournament for women organized in J&K by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K. This will boost the popularity of hockey amoung the women in J&K State.
A total number of 12 teams are participating in the tournament from Jammu, Poonch, Kathua, Udhampur and Akhnoor.
The inaugural match was played between Bandhurakh Hockey Club and Army Public School, Akhnoor which was won by later by the margin of 0-2. First goal was scored in 15 minute of game by Preety kalotra of APS Akhnoor and 2nd goal scored by Komal in 2nd half in the 45th minute of the game.
In 2nd match played today between Sham Lal Sharma Hockey Club Poonch and Hira Nagar Hockey Club which was on by Poonch by the comfortable margin of 5-0.1st gaol scored by Jaspreet Kour in the 1st minute of the game,2nd by Abhilove in 5th minute, 3rd goal scored by Meenakshi in the 18th minute, 4th goal scored by Urvashi in the 30 th minute whereas 5th goal was scored again by meenakshi in the 35th minute of the game by the Sham Lal Hockey Club Poonch.
Hockey sticks were distributed by Hockey J&K to the budding female players from Hira Nagar.
Dr. Taran Singh General Secretary Hockey J&K, S. B.S Bakshi Former general Secretary Hockey J&K, Dr. Ashok Sharma and Dr. Vinod Sharma prominent social workers were prominent present amoung others.
Umpire of the 1st match were Baljit Kour and Anjali and the technical officer for the match was NIS coach Gurmeet Kour. Whereas for the 2nd match umpires were Miss Gurmeet Kour and Miss Anjali and the technical officer was NIS Coach Mrs Veena Chib.
