Court grants seven day police custody of OSD to CE

JAMMU, Sept 24: Special Judge Anti-corruption Jammu YP Bourney granted seven days police remand of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to CE PWD Nazir Ahmed and driver Raju Singh who were yesterday arrested by the Anti-corruption Bureau Jammu.
Anti-corruption Bureau, Jammu was getting complaints of corrupt practices in office of Chief Engineer, R&B, Jammu, Nasir Goni.
A complainant namely Suresh Kumar R/o Reasi approached ACB, Jammu with a complaint against one Nazir Ahmad.
Verification revealed that he was posted as OSD to Chief Engineer PWD (R&B), Jammu.
Suresh Kumar is a part of self help group of engineers in the name and style of Guru Nanak Builders (group of unemployed engineers).
He completed counterfort wall work at Reasi Anji Road for 61.42 lakh for which an amount of Rs 32 lakhs was pending with the Roads and Building Department.
Complainant was constantly harassed by the Nazir Ahmed, Officer on special duty to Chief Engineer Road and Buildings.
He made many trips to the office of Chief Engineer's for the release of payment but concerned personal assistant repeatedly demanded 7% share of the pending amount as bribe to release the payment.
After receiving complaint, Anti Corruption Bureau registered an FIR no.22 U/s 5(1)(d), 4 (a) read with sec 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption act. The teams of Anti Corruption Bureau swung into action for laying of trap.
The trap was successful and ACB teams caught officer on special duty Nazir Ahmad along with his associate Raju Singh, Driver in R&B Department red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 70000. (JNF)
