Vijaypur, Sept 24: Former Minister and District Congress Committee, Samba, president, Manjit Singh today appealed Governor Satya Paul Malik to include Jat Community in Other Backward Class (OBC). Issuing a statement, the former minister said that the plight of Jat community is miserable and there is a dire need to uplift them. "Many in Jat community do minor private jobs in Punjab, and other neighbouring States of the Country to meet both ends meal. The Government should look into the conditions, they are living in," said Manjit Singh, senior Congress leader from Samba district. Singh said that this community was uprooted in Indo-Pak wars in 1965 and 1971 and during partition, they were the worst suffers. But, no one looked after them. "There is a need to give them reservation so that they can be uplifted political, economically and socially where they are facing alienation and negligence from the Government," he said, adding that various Government departments should be help to improve their livelihood. Recalling that they had submitted a memorandum to Backward Class Commission, J&K, in 2006, the former Minister said that their demands still remained a dream. He threatened that the peace loving Jat Community should not be compelled to come on the roads, and appealed Governor Satya Paul Malik to accept the demand for including of Jat community in OBC for their reservation. |
