Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 2: To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, a colourful cultural programme was presented by the inmates at District Jail Jammu. Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court was the Chief Guest . Justice Gita Mittal in her address appreciated the efforts made by jail authorities for the welfare of prisoners. She expressed her happiness on celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in the Jail and highlighted the contributions of Gandhiji. She welcomed the introduction of Prison Inmate Calling System in the Jail and construction of modern interview room. Earlier, the Chief Justice inaugurated the new interview room built on modern lines and also the Prison Inmate Calling System. One Undertrial Prisoner Jatan R/O Malapuram, Kerala made a call to his wife in Kerala during inauguration of the calling system. Modern interview rooms are being constructed in all jails of J&K and Prison Inmate Calling System is also being introduced in the Central Jails Srinagar & Jammu. The programme was witnessed by Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice Sindhu Sharma, DGP Prisons V. K Singh, IPS, Ashok Bhan, Rtd DGP Prisons, Vinod Chaterjee Koul, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Jammu, Sh. Jawad Ahmed, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Satish Khandare, IPS, IGP Prisons, Mukesh Singh, IPS , IGP Jammu, Vivek Gupta, DIG JKR, Sushma Chauhan Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr M. S Lone, DIG Prisons, Tejinder Singh, SSP Jammu, Professor Sunanda Raina, Principal GMC and a large number of senior members from judiciary, police and civil administration besides jail inmates and staff. During the program, the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi were displayed along with other videos to propagate the message of Mahatma Gandhi. Superintendent District Jail, Jammu in his welcome address underlined various steps being taken in the Prisons for welfare of prisoners and improving prison administration. He highlighted that the Department is making efforts towards making jails self-reliant and providing better facilities and training opportunities to the inmates. |
