Admin to face huge challenge as HS schools, colleges, universities set to reopen in Kashmir | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 2: The state administration is all set to face a major challenge on Thursday and in the coming days as well since it has ordered for the re-opening of higher secondary schools and colleges in Kashmir. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan has ordered for the re-opening of higher secondary schools in Kashmir on Thursday (October 3). Khan also said that the colleges and universities located in the valley would be thrown open by October 9. Sources told Early Times that the re-opening of higher secondary schools, colleges and universities in the valley is no less than a challenge for the authorities. They said that it would be very difficult for the people at helm to control the situation as and when some protest breaks out in these educational institutes and universities. "In the past it has been observed that student protests encourage other people to come out and lodge protest against the state administration. One cannot rule out the same as and when some protest breaks out in a higher secondary, college or university. It would be a precarious situation and difficult to handle as well," said sources. It is pertinent to mention here that all the higher secondary schools, colleges and universities in Kashmir valley are closed since August 5. It was on this day that Government of India abrogated Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution of India in Jammu & Kashmir. These Articles gave special privileges to the people of the state under the Union of India. Sources said that since some of the higher secondary schools and colleges are located in the city centre and nearby it would be difficult for the security agencies to break the protests as and when they take place. In such a scenario one cannot rule out the casualties and damages to the public property. "Students of educational institutes like Sri Pratap (SP) Higher Secondary School, MP Higher Secondary School, Higher Secondary School Jawahar Nagar, SP College, Gandhi Memorial College and Amar Singh College are at the forefront of the protests. The security agencies have their task cut out when it comes to dealing with such protests," said sources. Sources said that the only silver lining in this whole scenario is that not many students of higher secondary schools may turn up on Thursday since the examinations are round the corner. As the examination of 10th and 10+2 classes are going to be held in this month only one can hope that handful of students may turn up at their respective higher secondary schools. "Trouble may break out in the colleges of the city and other districts since the examination in the different under graduate classes are some time away. Protests cannot be ruled out in the different varsities as well since the attendance there is more than likely to be appreciable," said sources. Sources said that since colleges are reopening only in the next week the authorities have some more time to devise strategy to handle the students' protests as and when they break out. They said that similar strategy may be used to handle the university protests. |
