''We are maintaining a high-level of vigil along the International Border that runs from Kathua to Akhnoor (198-kms) to foil nefarious designs of the neighbouring country (Pakistan),'' a BSF official here told . He said the villagers living along the International Border are being made aware about drones, its types, shapes, activities and functioning, adding, ''We are conducting awareness programme among villagers and students regarding drone activities along the IB so that when any such thing happens, the border residents can immediately inform us.'' Initially, the awareness programme was conducted at Lalyal, Ganjansoo in Kanhachak sector and Chakrali villages of Akhnoor, he added and said, ''Visits to several schools are also being made to make students aware about the drones using them to smuggle weapons and they have been asked to be alert and vigilant.'' ''The villagers have been asked to inform to BSF or nearby police post, police station or check post in case they see any suspected movement of drone like object,'' said an official. Recently, the Punjab Police had claimed to have busted a terror module and also recovered drones used to drop arms and ammunition from across the border in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab Police had recently also recovered six AK-47 rifles and ammunition from three militants who were on way to Kashmir for transporting the consignment from Punjab. Meanwhile, taking serious note of Pakistan using Chinese drones to airdrop weapons, the Army and Border Security Force have sounded an all-out alert along the entire Indo-Pak border and Line of Control (LoC) and have asked border guards to keep a 'hawk's eye' over similar air-intrusions in future. GPS-fitted drones capable of lifting up to 10 kg of weight flew in from Pakistan seven to eight times to airdrop several caches of arms, ammunition and fake currency, which were seized in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, the ongoing probe by the Punjab police has revealed. ''The troops and observation posts have been asked to maintain the vigilance along the International Border and LoC in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch parts of Jammu region and in Baramulla, Kupawara districts of the Kashmir valley,'' they added. The BSF is also patrolling riverine areas along the IB in Akhnoor area on Jammu outskirts and has deployed water patrol teams in the Chenab river to foil terrorists' design to infiltrate into India from Pakistan, they said. |
