Lucky draw fraud continues in Poonch | Lack of transparency causes scuffle between people, organizers | | Rajesh Tandon Early Times Report POONCH, Oct 29: Despite number of frauds in past by various Lucky Draw Organizers, the district administration it seems has not learnt any lesson and continue to give permissions to such people who befool people by embezzling their hard earned money. Sources told Early Times that a Diwali Lucky Draw fraud has surfaced in Poonch town. They said that the organizers spontaneously changed the date for declaration of lucky draw results, which was decided on the Diwali day. "After changing the date, the organizer declared results but astonishingly organizers didn't display any items which were listed in the draw coupon including scooty, bikes, washing machines etc. which created doubts in the mind of the people, who had purchased the coupons," they said. They further said that the organizers also changed the venue as earlier it was scheduled at Stadium Ground Poonch but due to recruitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the venue was shifted to Government Higher Secondary School Poonch. "When organizers were about to declare results, they were also seen selling lucky draw coupons, which irate the people and the entire crowd jumped on the organizers and a scuffle took place due to which lucky draw result could not be declared. Shockingly, no security was put in place to diffuse such situation. At least adequate security should have been there. Moreover a district officer should be appointed for conducting this programme but nothing was done," they said. Although, the organizers claimed that they had sought permission from District Administration Poonch for Lucky Draw. Suddenly, the local police including SI Nazir Ahmed, SI Abdul Majeed, Munshi Shabir Ahmed reached the spot and saved the organizers. Later, the police took the organizers to police station. Principal of the school when contacted said that he had no knowledge of any such permission of using school premises for holding the event. Despite repeated calls, the SSP Poonch could not be contacted for the comments. Meanwhile, the people who had purchased the coupon demanded that their money should be refunded. |
