Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 30: A Station House Officer (SHO) posted at one of the police stations in district Reasi has earned a hefty amount by allegedly brokering in a dispute over the ownership of a piece of prime land.
According to sources, the SHO minted money from the two parties locked in a row over the proprietorship of land as he made the warring factions to enter into a compromise adding that few prominent locals of the area had sought help of the SHO to settle the dispute among the two parties. Sources said a complaint regarding land grabbing was received in the police station under command of the SHO adding that the police officer was well aware that value of the land is in crores which promoted him to intervene in the matter.
"Soon the SHO started making contact with the concerned people from both the sides claiming ownership of the land. In the meantime, the matter also reached the court. It was the SHO, who suggested one of the parties to approach the court of law to settle the issue," said sources.
"The SHO's suggestion of approaching the court was a trick to hoodwink the warring parties as after the intervention of the court he advanced his plan by contacting both the parties and finally making them to reach a compromise for which three to four meetings were arranged," they added.
Sources further said that the SHO pressurized both the parties by exerting maximum pressure so that the amount to be received in the deal can be increased. In this way, the SHO made the two groups to reach conciliation by pressurizing them; in return, he earned a hefty amount. It is pertinent to mention here that this police officer has been posted in this police station for the third time. He officiated as SHO of the police station on two occasions while he served there as Sub Inspector in the year 2000. The officer deliberately made it a point to get posting in this police station as he is well acquainted with the entire area.
