Fear in South Kashmir, post killing of non-local labours | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 31: Days after the five non-local labors were killed in Kulgam district, sense of fear is being witnessed among masses in the district, with locals turning towards their home as early as possible. Five non-local laborers were killed by unidentified gunmen in Katrochu Village of Kulgam district on Tuesday evening. The incident in Kulgam took place after a non- local trader, four drivers and a laborer were killed in south Kashmir's twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian in last few weeks. "I condemn such a disgraceful act of terrorism. Let me tell you, since the innocent local labors were shot dead, people are scared to roam around late in the evening", said a resident, Mushtaq Ahmed. He added that since August 5, life seemed to come back on the normalcy track from last than three weeks. But, since the killings of non locals have taken place, everything has turned back to darkness and fear. "We finish our work way before the sun sets, as we don't know what will happen the next moment. One cannot take risk of staying outside home so long since the killing of so many non-local labors", said Shahbaan, a student. He added that whosoever has done this (killing non-local labors) has done with the intention of creating fear among masses. After series of incident of killing of labors, local residents have forced residents in a state of bother making them think, whether they should rent their building to non local labors or not. He added that apple farmers had started plucking apple crops was delayed for over one moth and then from last few weeks life was moving normally. But, "Since so many incident of violence has taken place, we are scared now whether we should allow non local labors to sit in our home or not", said a resident in Kulgam on the basis of anonymity. Sources said, "Truckers from outside states have been coming in the area from last some days and ferrying of apple boxes were gaining pace". However, the authorities have moved hundreds of trucks from other states stationed at different safer zones beyond habitations at historic Mughal road amid tight security cover. |
