| JMC Dy Mayor visits site of massive fire | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 5: Adv. Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today visited the site of massive fire through a slum in Sheikh Nagar, Ward No: 47 leaving many people homeless.
Atleast 11- 12 tin shacks (Jhuggis) were destroyed in the Sheikh Nagar slum. Hon'ble Corporator, Smt. Sharda Kumari was also present there along with the Deputy Mayor.
Many homes had plastic roofs and walls which helped the flames to spread. No causality was reported in the incident. Most residents are low wage earners and many were away on work during this massive fire. The fire was caused due to short circuit.
On the direction of Deputy Mayor, they were immediately shifted to the nearby Community hall of JMC. Adv. Purnima Sharma made provision for water and tents (tarpaals) with the help of JMC and Red Cross. Hon'ble Corporator, Sharda Kumari provided food to the sufferers. Deputy Mayor contacted the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner about the incident and assured the victims that relief will be provided to them by the government soon. |
