CPIKC expresses concern over loss to apple growers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 10: Communist Party of India Kashmir council has expressed its grave concern over the heavy losses suffered by the apple growers due to early snowfall in the valley. As per the reports 70 percent apple tress have been damaged and about 30 percent of fruit has perished which was not plucked yet. It is unfortunate that the fruit growers who are already getting very low prices for their crops are facing severe economic setback, as the fruit is the sole source of income to the 80 percent farming community in the valley. It should be the foremost priority of the administration to assess the losses and adequately compensate the affected. CPI demanded that government should adequately compensate the affected farmers, waiving off their KCC loans and provide chemical fertilizers as well as pesticides to the affected fruit growers during the coming season, so that the heavy damage suffered by them is compensated to some extent, being the backbone of our economy. Government should take appropriate steps immediately without any delay. |
