Height of H&ME negligence: 200-bedded maternity misses numerous deadlines | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 10: The negligence of Health and Medical Education Department can be gauged from the fact that the 200 bedded Maternity Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu has not been made functional despite seven years and continues missing deadlines over deadlines. Here need to mention that the National Conference and Congress government in 2011 had started the work of above-said hospital within the premises of Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar but due to lack of interest, the concerned authority has completely failed to operational the hospital. "Keeping in view of huge rush at SMGS Hospital, which is overcrowded for the last many years, the proposal was taken up and funds were approved for setting up the hospital under Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) and it was supposed to be completed by the end of 2014-15 financial year, "sources told Early Times. Sources further told that due to slackness approach with poor planning the project jumped several deadlines. The said project is delaying day by day and it seems there is no sign of its functioning due to incomplete infrastructure, and other even the file for creation of staff posts is gathering dust in the office of the concerned authority. If officials of the department are to be believed, the infrastructure of the said building has been completed by the executive agencies and it would be functional as soon. Contesting the claims of the department, sources alleged that the present infrastructure has many flaws and pointed out by inspection team time and again. There was no suction plant and gas plant in the hospital building, Radiology Section was not as per guidelines, labour room and many more were not as per requirement. Pointing out gross negligence, sources claimed that the blueprint of the building was made by the agency without ramp facility, which is a key part of any hospital the building, and most interesting no one was pointed out and when the building about to complete the work of ramp was started by breaking some part of the building. When contacted, Commissioner, H&ME Atal Dulloo was not available for comments. |
