'Shut downs no solution, go for other means to lodge protest' | Panthers Party's Jammu bandh call | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 3: Already struggling to cope up with the losses in their businesses that are running in crores due to forced shut down in Kashmir and clampdown on mobile internet services in the entire Union Territory of J&K, the traders of Jammu could experience further setback with the announcement of Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party's (JKNPP's) Jammu Bandh call on December 7. The proposed bandh of Panthers Party could take a heavy toll on the traders of Jammu who are in the midst of a crisis following imposition of series of restrictions after the revocation of Articles 370 and 35 A and bifurcation of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh on August 5. Though, the motive of Panthers Party's Jammu bandh is to express its resentment against establishment of new Toll Plaza at Sarore and other locations in Jammu province viz a viz continued blockade of mobile internet services but there is general feeling among political observers that the bandhs at this juncture should be avoided as Jammu's trade is already going through a critical phase for the last four months. "To raise voice against government is definitely a right in a democratic set up but under present circumstances it is not wise to go for a shut down. There are other ways and means to lodge protest against the policies of government. Presently, the traders say, they are faced with losing business worth thousands of crores. So a bandh will further compound their problems," said an observer. It is in place to mentaion here that the business and commerce in Jammu and Kashmir provinces is an "intra-state trade" and there is a major dependence of Jammu traders on Kashmir market. "Whenever Kashmir is disturbed or having shut downs, the traders in Jammu incur heavy losses. Currently, we are running losses in thousands of crores due to the prevailing situation in Valley. Moreover, the snapped mobile internet services have also hit our business to a great extent," said a businessman. |
