'New Kashmir political scene won't have Abdullahs, Muftis' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 3: Kashmir-centric leaders, who have been under detention since August 5 could get another shock as the speculations are rife that Third Front comprising of the rebels from National Conference (NC), People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress may emerge soon. According to the media reports, political scene in Kashmir is all set to change with new faces coming to fore. Soon after Jammu & Kashmir government released few politicians from house detention and shifted some of them from MLAs Hostel in Srinagar to their respective residences, Iltija Mufti, daughter of the former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, tweeted that Third Front is in offing. Some of the media reports claimed that Kashmir-centric leaders, who have been lodged at MLAs Hostel in Srinagar, are being asked to sign a bond to secure their freedom. Ones who want to come out have to assure the government that they won't indulge in any political activity or issue any political statement which could create law and order issues. "Ones who have agreed to remain quite atleast for a year have been released but the ones who are adamant continued to be in jail," an analyst told Early Times. Post August 5, Kashmir-centric leaders are finding themselves at crossroads. Recently, National Conference Member Parliament Mohd Akbar Lone stated that his party won't contest the elections till J&K's statehood is restored but he was quick to add that the final decision in this regard would be taken after NC president Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah are released. On the other hand, People's Democratic Party is in a mess. The people who used to surround Mehbooba Mufti, when she was the Chief Minister, are nowhere to be seen. Even her own brother Tassaduq Mufti, whom she brought from Mumbai and inducted him as Tourism Minister in her cabinet, has not stood besides his sister when she needed him the most. "Former PDP MLAs had one common ambition that all of them wanted to become a Chief Minister. Most of them believed that they are better than their party chief Mehbooba Mufti and they deserve to hold the top post. As on date Mehbooba Mufti stands alone as none of her party leaders barring a few want to remain affiliated with the PDP," said an observer. He said that the emerging situation is a precursor about the events that would unfurl in coming future and one can easily see a Third Front minus Abdullahs and Muftis. |
