Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 10: Hundreds of passengers continued to suffer as air traffic remained suspended for the fourth day on Tuesday at Srinagar International Airport due to dense fog, an official of airport said.
Due to very poor visibility following dense fog, not a single flight could operate at the Airport, he told .
He said air traffic will be resumed only if there is improvement in the visibility.
Air traffic remained suspended as all the flights were cancelled since Saturday. A team of Press Council of India (PCI) was scheduled to arrive here in the afternoon of Saturday to assess the situation being faced by the media persons due to suspension of internet service since August 5, when the Centre scrapped Article 370 and 35 A, besides dividing the state into two Union Territories (UTs). The PCI team has since reached now Jammu on Monday and is scheduled to visit here.
However, on Friday eleven flights were cancelled in the morning due to poor visibility and later air traffic was resumed in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, passengers who were scheduled to travel by air from here to different parts of the country and abroad were very disappointed due to cancellation of all flights for the past four day.
Senior Airport official said that every effort is being made to resume the air traffic at the airport. But, he said, due to dense fog it is impossible to operate any flight.
However, he said, the matter to operate additional flights after resumption of air traffic will be taken up with all airlines to accommodate passengers who could not travel during the past four days.
About the passengers who had to come daily from different parts of the valley to airport only to be told that flights have been cancelled, he said government has arrange transport facilities for these passengers. ''We cannot help since flights are not operating due to fog'', he said.
