Jammu, Dec 18: All Jammu and Kashmir Jatt Sabha appealed Government to declare damage to crops in plains of Jammu as 'natural disaster'. In a statement here, Jatt members assembled here to discuss problems being faced by the famers in villages along the International Border and other places. The meeting was chaired by All J&K Jatt Sabha, president, S. Manjit Singh. "Heavy rains have destroyed the basmati crop of the farmers and they are helpless. They need support from the Government," reads the press statement issued after the meeting. They said that the farmers and fruit growers in Kashmir were facilitated with compensation by the Government accepting their damage in snowfall as 'natural disaster.' "Similarly, the Government should consider compensation to the farmers who have lost their crops due to heavy rains and their basmati crop has been destroyed," appealed the Jatt Sabha leader. Manjit Singh said that "Give benefit like Kashmir in Jammu farmers, too. These farmers are poor. Kissan Credit card interest should not be charged, and PDD should also help farmers by not charging them electricity charges i.e. pump set charges." The meeting was attended by Jatt leaders including Vikram Randhawa, Choudhary Garu Ram, Dwaraka Choudhary and Manjit Singh Jatt. |
