Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 18: A medical Camp for ASHA workers of Block Marh was held here at local Community Health centre to screen them for Non-Communicable Diseases (NSD) viz; Hypertension, Diabetes, Oral, Breast and Cervical Cancer.
The camp was organised by Block Medical Officer, Marh under the supervision of Bhupinder Kumar, Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K.
Around 99 ASHAs were examined for Non-Communicable diseases like Hypertension, Diabetes, besides Oral, Breast and Cervical Cancer. The high risk ASHAs, who have been suspected for NCD were identified and suggested for follow up and further management.
Dr. Sambhita Bhat, Gynecologist and Dr Shashi Bala, Gynecologist were main resource persons for screening of Breast & Cervical Cancer using Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA). The camp was also attended by the team from National Health Mission, J&K.
It is pertinent to mention here that under Ayushman Bharat Sub-Centres (SCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) are being upgraded as Health & Wellness Centres in a phased manner to provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care services with focus on Non Communicable Diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, besides Oral, breast & Cervical Cancers.
The objective is to promote Health by ensuring early detection of diseases, so that the patients can be managed appropriately from the beginning itself. The UT of J&K endeavours to create a trained pool of resource persons in each district, who will subsequently train all the Female Medical Officers/ Staff Nurses on screening of cervical cancer using Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA).
The mass screening has started with the screening of ASHAs, who form a crucial link between Community and Health Facility and can be pivotal in spreading awareness about these common NCDs among the general public.
