J&K climbers win 2 Gold medals in Tata Steel Sport climbing competition | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 25: J&K climbers once again held the Union Territory flag flying high by winning two Gold medals in the Tata Steel Sport Climbing Competition, the last competition of the year, held at Jamshedpur from December 20 to 23. While Ajay Deep Singh won a Gold medal in the combined lead and Speed Climbing and Bouldering in the Boys category, his elder sister Shivani Charak bagged a Gold medal in the Relay Speed Climbing. The third climber of J&K Arun Deep Singh could secure only the 4th position in combined climbing. Ajay Deep Singh secured the first rank in Bouldering, he was tied at the 1st place with Aman Verma of Jharkhand when both of them topped the wall. Ajay also secured the second place in Speed Climbing and won the combined climbing title and a cash prize of Rs 15000 from Bichendri Pal, the first Indian woman to scale the Everest. Sachin Saroj of Delhi who secured 1st, 2nd and 4th ranks in Speed Climbing, Bouldering and Lead climbing respectively bagged the Silver medal and Aman Verma, the top ranked climber in the country in the Boys category, could win only a Bronze medal. For Shivani Charak who recently won a Bronze medal in Speed Climbing in the Asian Youth Championship, it was a cake walk when she combined immaculately with Inder Rathore and Bhuvnesh Choudhary of Army to emerge victorious in the Speed Relay competition and bagged a cash prize of Rs 25000. Meanwhile, Ram Khajuria, General Secretary and Shawetica Khajuria, Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K have congratulated the climbers for their magnificent achievements in the Tata Steel competition.
