For now, Union Govt to keep JK's senior leadership in custody | Govt. weighing options to restore political activities in phased manner | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 25: In a recent high level security meet at New Delhi and convened under the chairmanship of union home minister Amit Shah, the release of the political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir has been discussed at threadbare with emphasis laid to allow restoration of the political activities in a phased manner. However, as per the reports, no decision vis-a-vis the release of the incarcerated politicians has been taken till date with inputs suggesting that the union home ministry is actively considering the proposal to set free second level of leadership and allow them to carry out political activities in a limited manner and if the situation remains conducive, further coarse of action shall accordingly be decided. Post August 5, this year when Jammu and Kashmir's special status was scarped, the government besides imposing gag on communication services also detained hundreds of political leaders and their supporters. The government argued that the measure will help restoring normalcy on ground and will prevent eruption of protest demonstrations. Meanwhile, with five months since the removal of 370 about to be completed, the union government is seriously weighing the option of setting the detained leaders free in a limited manner. The government, as per the reports, in a meeting held recently and was attended by NSA Ajit Doval, JK Lt Governor Murmu , Police chief Dilbagh Singh and several others took an important decision of taking back the additional companies of forces from Kashmir- deployed this year ahead of August 5. Such a measure has also given rise to the possibilities that the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir is improving and needs to further efforts to tackle the law and order issues if witnessed by the authorities in near future. However, as per the reports, the government is apprehensive that if it sets free the top level leadership in Kashmir, it may give rise to the protest demonstrations especially when air in the country is thick with uncertainty prevailing due to the NRC fiasco. Reports inform that the government may not take any measure vis-a-vis the release of the detained politicians who could emerge as a possible law and order challenge for the government. As per the reports, the process of releasing the incarcerated politicians will begin with the second level of leadership only and will ascertain the situation accordingly. There are also speculations rife within the administrative circles that the process may get stretched upto March next year when the overall security scenario shall witness betterment at large. The government, as per the reports, will thoroughly filter the political happenings that will be witnessed post the release second line of leadership in Jammu and Kashmir and the process will be further continued only when the ground situation remains "satisfactory" from the point of view of the security agencies. |
