| Public sufferings increased due to severe shortage of staff in RDD | | | Ashwani Sharma

UDHAMPUR, Dec 25: Acute shortage of staff in the entire Rural Development Department (RDD) in district Udhampur is putting the public to many problems. Several villagers have informed that most of their important works are facing unwarranted delay for no fault of theirs.
Sources informed that about 3-4 Block Development Officers (BDOs) of vital Blocks are having additional charges due to which the pendency of official works in these blocks is piling up with each passing day.
Sources said that BDO of Panchari is having additional charge of Tikri Block while BDO of Chenani is also looking after Udhampur Block in addition. Similarly, BDO of Chanunta is having additional charge of Jaganoo Block. These officials are devoting maximum time sitting at places assigned as additional charges and in the process of doing so they are ignoring their present places of postings.
Similar is the case with Gram Sewaks as most of these officials too are working on additional charges and some of these are holding the additional charge for the last about five yrs said sources adding that something is fishy to have additional charge which looks like only to gain undue benefits otherwise "What is the interest of having additional charges apart from one's own post," sources maintained. Surprisingly, the ACD Udhampur is also having the additional charge of District Panchayat Officer Udhampur.
When contacted, DC Udhampur informed that there is shortage of staff in the RDD and this is not specific to Udhampur only adding that it has become a problem for entire Union Territory of J&K. |
