Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 27: The famous phrase "one Step Forward, Two steps back" completely suits State Health and Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir as the officials are focusing to establish more medical colleges but existing health institutes are deteriorating due to the Department's apathy.
Here need to mention that Sir Chopra Nursing Home was established in the name of Father of Indian Pharmacology and the first scientist from Jammu, Col. R. N. Chopra, which was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 21 December 1989.
As a multi-story complex Sir Colonel Chopra Nursing Home was closed for any public use in the month of August 2017 when some technical snag and since then the complex has become out of reach for the general public, especially the patients, who look for private healthcare alternatives in the absence of best health facilities except the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu.
After developing technical error, a Detail Project Report (DPR) of Rs 25 Lakhs was made by the concerned wing and submitted to the management of the GMC&H Jammu due to unknown reasons the work of renovation was not started. From the date of non-functional Chopra Nursing Home, thousands of patients' have moved one place to another for getting the best treatment odd hours.
"After, two Health Ministers changed and both of them asked to concerned quarters to make projects, which could be started and in this regards project details of Spinal Injury Centre, were submitted and the project kept in cold storage, "sources told, adding that later a wall of the Chopra Nursing Home was demolished with the aim to connect with existing Emergency of the hospital but nothing has been done in spite of spending amount.
Now, sources added, a separate DPR of Rs, 17 crores have been submitted to the concerned authority for taking up a a final call on the project. Keeping the huge cost of the project, the concerned quarters did not take any decision so far as result the needy of Jammu have to move other places to get the treatment.
An official of H&ME Department told that they were working to reopen the Chopra Nursing Home as soon as possible and a separate fund would be issued from the Faineance Department.
