| Locals stage protest over cement unit in residential area | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur Dec 29: Locals here today staged a protest demonstration against the cement industries in Udhampur town.
The protesters demanded closure or shifting of these industries as these are causing pollution and disturbing the normal life of the people. “Our children are at high risk of falling prey to breathing diseases as the air remains full of dust due to the cement factories in the area,” Bina Rani told this reporter.
A student, Rahul Singh said that cement industries in the town are not following the norms laid down by the pollution control board. He further said that pollution control board has never bothered to check the pollution being caused by these industries despite the issue have been brought to its notice by the locals many times.
According to locals, the industries at Battal Ballian are in the heart of a residential area and as per norms, it should be immediately shifted to some other places, even the industrial department has identified new places.
The protesters also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to look into an issue so that the people may heave a sigh of relief.
