Kashmir Inc wants Rs 17,000 Cr special package to compensate hartal, Jammu Inc silent | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 8: In the wake of situation arising out of the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile state, the business community of Kashmir looks ahead for a special package of around Rs 17,000 crore from New Delhi whereas the business community of Jammu has put forth no such demand for the winter capital region, sources said. Even as the Jammu also faced the brunt of uneasy situation in the recently established Union Territory and there continues to be a ban on mobile internet facilities in the winter capital region, it is Kashmir alone which as always looks ahead for "compensation and relief packages." Sources said on December 16, the business community of Kashmir called on Union Minister for Industries and Commerce Piyush Goyal in the national capital and "sought package to compensate the losses." The fact of the matter remains that Kashmir is looking ahead for the huge financial package for the anti-national hartal which the valley observed to protest the abrogation of the special status, whereas Jammu not only welcomed the historic decision as taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but held celebrations. The markets and other commercial activities in Jammu had resumed normal no sooner the preventive restrictions as were imposed at the time of the abrogation of the special status were removed. But in line with the Pakistani sentiment, Kashmir had observed shutdown for over three months. Now, however, instead of repenting to have observed shutdown in Kashmir against New Delhi's decision, the business community of the region has "shamelessly" approached the central government seeking special package to overcome the losses. As per the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the so called economic losses suffered by the valley since August 5 has been pegged at the whopping Rs 17,000. Market pundits said the fact of the matter is that infact Jammu suffered undue losses due to the "anti-national sentiment in Kashmir." "The economy of Jammu and Kashmir is interrelated and interconnected. If Kashmir suffers loses, Jammu also suffers losses because most of the production units are in Jammu region. And here if the economy suffered losses it is because of the anti-national sentiment in Kashmir. Why did business community of Kashmir observe hartal in the first place," asked a market analyst. The market players said the business community of Jammu region should also call on the union government and seek special package for Jammu region which often bears the brunt of the situation arising out of separatist sentiment in Kashmir. |
