Second highest producer of power, JK gets lowest average power supply across country | Generates 16541.58 MU in 2019 but gets 15 hours per day average electricity | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 11: Despite being second highest producer of electricity in the country, Jammu and Kashmir has been getting lowest average power supply per day in the rural areas in comparison to all other states, except Arunachal Pradesh. According to the data available with Early Times, the highest producer of electricity across the country is Himachal Pradesh, which has the installed power generation capacity of 9809.02 MWs of power and had generated 35908.57 MUs of power for the year 2018-19. Whereas Jammu and Kashmir is the second highest producer of power and has the installed power generation capacity of 3449 MWs and had generated 16541.58 MUs of power for the year 2018-19. Moreover despite being second highest power supplier across the country, Jammu and Kashmir has been getting lowest average power supply during the year 2019. "The average hours of power supply to rural areas in a day in Jammu and Kashmir was 15.00 hours in the month of May 2019", the data revealed. The only other state was Arunachal Pradesh, which had got lowest average hours of power supply to rural areas in a day for 14.30 hours. The states including Andhra Pradesh, Gujrat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Uttrakhand and West Bengal had received 24 hours average supply per day for the month of May 2019. In context of hydro electric potential of Jammu and Kashmir, the identified power generation capacity is 14146 MWs out of which merely 3449 has been tapped and in operation, which accounted for merely 25.47 percent of identified capacity while as the capacity of the hydro electric power projects under construction is 1935.5 MWs. These under construction power projects having capacity of 1935.5 MWs included a Central project being constructed by CVVPL, named Pakkal Dul with capacity of 1000 MWs. Two state sector projects being constructed by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) Parnai of 37.50 MWs and Lower Kalnai with 48 MWs of capacity. One project under Private sector category is 850 MWs capacity Rattle project being constructed by RHEPPL. Due to delay in the construction of these projects, the annual loss of energy per year is 6905.24 MU. |
