PDD adopts soft stance against defaulter supplier | Fails to recover full penalty amount | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: The Power Development Department (PDD) has been suffering huge revenue loss due to its lackluster attitude in taking timely corrective measures for consolidating its crumbling financial health, which can be gauged from the fact that it showed casual approach in recovering penalty amount from a supplier who failed to fulfill entire order. Sources in the department told Early Times that the Procurement and Material Management wing of Power Development Department had cancelled supply orders of a company for supplying short material few years ago. "Supplier had to supply the materials including Aluminium Conductor Steel-Reinforced Cable (ACSR), which is a type of high-capacity, high-strength stranded conductor typically used in overhead power lines and Steel Tubular Poles valuing Rs 6 Crore. The supplier made short supply of the material resulting the department cancelled its supply order and imposed penalty on it," they said. They said further adding out of penalty amount of Rs 30 lakhs imposed on the supplier for supplying short materials, only Rs 40,000 was recovered resulting loss over Rs 29 lakh. Although, the department had been claiming that it had recovered penalty amount as per industrial policy but the fact is that there is no such provision in the industrial policy. |
